All roads lead to Syokimau on August 29, 2015 for the first-ever marathon by the Syokimau Residents Association, SRA.
“The purpose of the marathon is to rasie funds to rehabilitate one of the idle public lands into a public sports field for the Syokimau community,’’ said Dorothy Musya, Chairperson of SRA Youth and Sports Committee.
About 1,500 participants are expected to take part in the events which has three race categories, 5km, 10km and 21 km. Registration for the marathon has opened at a cost of 1,000 shillings for adults and 500 shillings for children.
The event has attracted several sponsors, both in cash and kind, including Safaricom Ltd, Rift Valley Railways, Development Bank of Kenya, House of Grace Syokimau, Breakthrough International Church, Syokimau Teens & Kids Club, Flappy Car Wash, Switch Fitness Gym in Mlolongo and Delta Ice. Mlolongo Police Station headed by Inspector Wambugu and Jeff Hamilton Security will provide security for all participants, while Mavoko Sub Country office has provided ambulances.
SRA Youth and Sports Committee has received a lot of support from the Mlolongo-Syokimau Member of County Assembly, Rachel Nduku Nduku and the local political leadership is expected to attend and flag off the event, Dorothy said.
